Background
The glia maturation factor beta belongs to the actin-binding proteins ADF family, GMF subfamily. It contains an ADF-H domain, but the research of crystallography and NMR reveals that there are structures different between human and mouse ADF-H domain. GMF-β appears to play a role in the differentiation, maintenance, and regeneration of the nervous system. It also supports the progression of certain auto immune diseases, possibly through its ability to induce the production and secretion of various pro inflammatory cytokines. It also inhibition of proliferation of tumor cells and it has also been shown to function intracellularly as a modulator of MAP kinase signal transduction. Recombinant human GMFβis a 16.6kDa protein containing 141 amino-acid residues.
