Background

Calretinin is a 29-kDa calcium-binding protein of the troponin C superfamily, encoded by CALB2 on chromosome 16, that contains six EF-hand motifs enabling it to buffer intracellular Ca²⁺, modulate neuronal excitability and circadian rhythms, and serve as an immunohistochemical marker for mesothelioma, selected neurons, mast cells, hair follicles and adipocytes.
