Background
Podoplanin is a 40 kDa, transmembrane, oncofetal, O linked sialoglycoprotein (mucin type) found on lymphatic endothelium, mesothelium and fetal testis, , but not in microvascular endothelial cells. Podoplanin is selectively expressed in normal and malignant lymphatic endothelium, including Kaposi's sarcomas. Podoplanin has also been shown to be expressed in epithelioid mesotheliomas and seminomas.
