Background
Fatty acid binding protein 5(FABP5), epidermis is a protein encoded by the FABP5 gene. The gene encodes a fatty acid-binding protein present in epidermal cells and was first identified as being upregulated in psoriatic tissue. Fatty acid binding proteins are a small, highly conserved family of cytoplasmic proteins that bind long-chain fatty acids and other hydrophobic ligands. The effects of FABPs are thought to include fatty acid uptake, transport and metabolism. FABP5 has been shown to interact with S100A7.
