Background

DCIR, also known as Lectin-like Immunoreceptor (LLIR), is a type II membrane protein belonging to the C-type lectin domain family and is designated CLEC4A. Members of this family share a common protein fold and have diverse functions, such as cell adhesion, cell-cell signalling, glycoprotein turnover, and roles in inflammation and immune response. DCIR expressed on antigen presenting cells and granulocytes and acts as an inhibitory receptor via an intracellular immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motif (ITIM). It may also be involved via its ITIM motif in the inhibition of B-cell-receptor-mediated calcium mobilization and protein tyrosine phosphorylation.
