Background
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), or human herpesvirus 4, is a globally prevalent gammaherpesvirus. It is the causative agent of infectious mononucleosis (IM) and is also associated with specific malignancies, including Burkitt's lymphoma (BL) and gastric carcinoma (GC). A key player in EBV infection is glycoprotein B (gB), which facilitates viral entry into epithelial cells by binding to αvβ6/αvβ8 integrins to trigger membrane fusion. This critical function establishes gB as a prominent target for EBV research.
