Background

Phospho-CaMKII (Thr286) refers to the phosphorylated form of the Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) at threonine residue 286. CaMKII is a multifunctional serine/threonine protein kinase that plays a crucial role in various cellular processes, particularly in the heart and brain. When phosphorylated at Thr286, CaMKII undergoes autophosphorylation, which enhances its activity and allows it to function in a Ca2+-independent manner. This phosphorylated state is essential for the regulation of cardiac myocyte contraction, synaptic plasticity, and memory formation. Abnormal phosphorylation of CaMKII at Thr286 has been implicated in several pathological conditions, including heart failure and arrhythmias, making it a potential therapeutic target for cardiovascular diseases.
