Background

Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that plays a crucial role in the immune response. It is produced by various cell types, including macrophages and monocytes, in response to infections or tissue injury. IL-1β helps to initiate and amplify the inflammatory response by promoting the expression of other inflammatory mediators and recruiting immune cells to the site of infection or damage. It also has effects on a wide range of physiological processes, such as fever induction, modulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, and regulation of metabolism.
