Background
ALKBH5, also named as ABH5 and OFOXD1, is a Dioxygenase that demethylates RNA by oxidative demethylation. It is a mammalian demethylase that oxidatively reverses m6A in mRNA in vitro and in vivo. ALKBH5 is required for spermatogenesis. Also acts as a negative regulator of T-cell development: inhibits gamma-delta T-cell proliferation via demethylation of JAG1 and NOTCH2 transcripts. Inhibits regulatory T-cell (Treg) recruitment by mediating demethylation and destabilization of CCL28 mRNAs.
