Background
Mouse IgG2b is another strongly inflammatory antibody isotype that shares functional similarities with IgG2a, though it is genetically distinct. It effectively binds to several activating Fc gamma receptors (FcγRs), though often with different affinities compared to IgG2a. IgG2b is highly competent at triggering key effector functions, including ADCC, ADCP, and complement activation. Its ability to fix complement is generally considered very strong, often on par with or even exceeding that of IgG2a in certain contexts. IgG2b thus plays a crucial role in the humoral immune response by efficiently opsonizing pathogens for clearance and directly lysing target cells through complement-mediated mechanisms.
