Background
TIMP metallopeptidase inhibitor 2 is also known as TIMP2, which belongs to the protease inhibitor I35 (TIMP) family. The total length of TIMP-2 Protein, Human (HEK293, His) is 194 a.a., with molecular weight of 22-24 kDa. TIMP-2 protein is a tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases that can bind and inactivate various metalloproteinases, including collagenases, such as MMP-1, MMP-2, MMP-3, MMP-7, MMP-8, MMP-9 , MMP-10, MMP-13, MMP-14, MMP-15, MMP-16 and MMP-19. TIMP2 is a 22 kDa non N-glycosylated protein expressed by a variety of cell types, and plays a unique role among TIMP family members owing to its functions to regulate cellular responses to growth factors.
