Background

Acrp30, also known as Adiponectin, is an adipocyte-specific secretory protein that is abundantly expressed in adipose tissue. It plays a crucial role in whole-body energy homeostasis and is dysregulated in various forms of obesity in humans and mice. Due to its strong structural similarity to TNFα, Acrp30 is considered an important molecule in metabolic regulation. The mouse Acrp30 gene has been mapped to the telomere of mouse chromosome 16, syntenic to the human chromosomal locus 3q27. Acrp30 expression is induced only at the late stages of mouse embryonic development, and it has been characterized in tissue culture cells, showing potential for driving strong adipocyte-specific heterologous gene expression in transgenic mice.
In the industrial sector, Acrp30, Mouse has significant applications, particularly in the fields of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. It is used in various bioassays to understand its effects on endothelial inflammatory response, vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation, and macrophage-to-foam cell transformation. Acrp30 is known to promote adipocyte differentiation, fatty acid catabolism, and insulin sensitivity, and it is negatively correlated with obesity, type 2 diabetes, and atherogenesis. This makes it a valuable asset in drug discovery and development for metabolic diseases.
