Background
Insulin-like Growth Factor Binding Protein-2 (IGFBP-2) is a 30–36 kDa secreted protein encoded by the Igfbp2 gene, containing 271 amino acids in the mature form after cleavage of a 34-amino acid signal peptide. Mouse and human IGFBP-2 share approximately 82% homology. IGFBP-2 binds both IGF-I and IGF-II with high affinity, exhibiting 2–10 fold higher affinity for IGF-II than for IGF-I. This binding prolongs IGF half-life and modulates ligand-receptor interactions.
