Background
HAV cellular receptor 1 (HAVCR1), also known as Kidney injury molecule 1 (KIM-1) or T cell immunoglobulin mucin 1 (TIM-1), is an integral membrane glycoprotein. KIM-1 is widely expressed, with the highest levels found in the kidney and testis. It is recognized as a major susceptibility gene for asthma, allergy, and autoimmunity in humans. IgA1lambda, a specific ligand of KIM-1, has been shown to have a synergistic effect in virus-receptor interactions. KIM-1 is implicated in the pathogenesis of acute kidney injury and has been confirmed as a biomarker of renal dysfunction in human urine. Additionally, KIM-1 is a novel regulatory molecule of flow-induced calcium signaling
