Background

CD62L, also known as L-selectin, is a type-I transmembrane glycoprotein and a member of the selectin family of adhesion molecules. It is expressed on most circulating leukocytes, including T cells, B cells, and neutrophils. CD62L plays a crucial role in leukocyte adhesion and migration, particularly in the process of lymphocyte homing to secondary lymphoid organs such as lymph nodes. It mediates the initial rolling of leukocytes on endothelial cells, which is a key step in the recruitment of immune cells to sites of inflammation. Additionally, CD62L is a marker for central memory T cells, which have the ability to rapidly respond to antigen re-exposure. Its expression levels can also indicate the differentiation state of certain immune cells and is involved in various immune responses.
