Background
Matrix metalloproteinase-7 (MMP-7) is a small proteolytic enzyme that is secreted as a zinc- and calcium-dependent endopeptidase. It plays a crucial role in the degradation of various extracellular matrix substrates and non-ECM proteins, such as E-cadherin and Fas ligand, which are involved in cell adhesion and apoptosis. MMP-7 is implicated in several physiological processes, including wound healing, bone growth, and remodeling. In cancer, MMP-7 is often overexpressed and contributes to tumor progression by promoting cell proliferation, invasion, metastasis, and angiogenesis. Its expression levels correlate with the clinical characteristics of cancer patients, making it a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for various types of cancer.

Immunohistochemistry
IHC shows positive staining in paraffin-embedded human prostatic hyperplasia. Anti-MMP7 antibody was used at 1/250 dilution, followed by a HRP Polymer for Mouse & Rabbit IgG (ready to use). Counterstained with hematoxylin. Heat mediated antigen retrieval with Tris/EDTA buffer pH9.0 was performed before commencing with IHC staining protocol.
