Flow cytometric analysis of Human CD15 expression on human peripheral blood Leukocytes. Human peripheral blood Leukocytes were stained with Alexa Fluor® 488 Mouse IgM Isotype Control (Left panel) or SDT Alexa Fluor® 488 Mouse Anti-Human CD15 Antibody (Right panel) at 1.25 μl/test. Flow cytometry and data analysis were performed using BD FACSymphony™ A1 and FlowJo™ software.

Background
CD15, also known as Lewis X or SSEA-1, is a carbohydrate epitope (Galβ1→4[Fucα1→3]GlcNAc) carried primarily on glycoproteins and glycolipids of myeloid cells, granulocytes, and certain lymphocyte subsets; it serves as a key adhesion molecule that mediates selectin-dependent leukocyte rolling during inflammation, acts as a marker of mature neutrophils and Hodgkin/Reed-Sternberg cells, and its differential expression is exploited in immunohistochemistry to distinguish myeloid leukemias from lymphoid malignancies and to identify stem-cell populations in normal and neoplastic tissues.
