Background
WDR5 (WD repeat-containing protein 5) is a highly conserved core subunit of the mixed-lineage leukemia (MLL/SET1) family of histone H3 lysine 4 (H3K4) methyltransferase complexes, playing a pivotal role in epigenetic regulation and gene transcription. Structurally characterized by its seven-bladed β-propeller domain formed by WD40 repeats, WDR5 serves as a critical scaffold that stabilizes the MLL complex and facilitates its interaction with specific target proteins, including the recognition of arginine-methylated histone tails and non-histone substrates.
