IHC shows positive staining in paraffin-embedded human lung. Anti-Surfactant Protein B antibody was used at 1/1000 dilution, followed by a HRP Polymer for Mouse & Rabbit IgG (ready to use). Counterstained with hematoxylin. Heat mediated antigen retrieval with Tris/EDTA buffer pH9.0 was performed before commencing with IHC staining protocol.

Background
Surfactant protein B is an essential lipid-associated protein found in pulmonary surfactant. Without it, the lung would not be able to inflate after a deep breath out [PMID: 19220077]. It rearranges lipid molecules in the fluid lining the lung so that tiny air sacs in the lung, called alveoli, can more easily inflate [PMID: 19220077].

Immunohistochemistry
IHC shows positive staining in paraffin-embedded human lung cancer paracancerous tissue.
