Background
CD115, also known as Colony-Stimulating Factor 1 Receptor (CSF1R) or M-CSF receptor (M-CSFR), is a 972-amino-acid cell-surface glycoprotein encoded by the CSF1R gene (c-FMS proto-oncogene) that belongs to the type III receptor tyrosine kinase family; it serves as a receptor for the cytokines CSF-1 and IL-34, and is highly expressed on monocyte-lineage cells and osteoclasts, mediating their survival, proliferation, differentiation, and motility through ligand-induced oligomerization and transphosphorylation, with mutations linked to myeloid malignancies and increased expression observed in Alzheimer’s disease microglia and breast carcinogenesis .
