Background
RanBP2, a 358-kDa nucleoporin that forms the cytoplasmic filaments of the nuclear pore complex, functions as an E3 SUMO ligase and a scaffold for RanGAP1-SUMO1-Ubc9 complexes, thereby orchestrating nucleocytoplasmic transport, mitotic spindle assembly, and the recruitment of kinesin-1 to drive plus-end-directed motility of aggresomes and lipid droplets while also regulating NF-κB signaling, circadian rhythms, and neuronal responses through its extensive network of interactions at the pore and beyond.
