PlGF, a key angiogenic protein, is primarily used in obstetrics to aid in the diagnosis and prediction of placental dysfunction-related conditions, particularly preeclampsia. Low PlGF levels (especially in the first and second trimesters) are strongly associated with impaired placental development, serving as a biomarker to differentiate preeclampsia from other hypertensive disorders. It also helps assess risks of fetal growth restriction and guides clinical decisions, enabling timely intervention and monitoring.
