Background

CD15, also known as Lewis X or SSEA-1, is a carbohydrate epitope (Galβ1→4[Fucα1→3]GlcNAc) carried primarily on glycoproteins and glycolipids of myeloid cells, granulocytes, and certain lymphocyte subsets; it serves as a key adhesion molecule that mediates selectin-dependent leukocyte rolling during inflammation, acts as a marker of mature neutrophils and Hodgkin/Reed-Sternberg cells, and its differential expression is exploited in immunohistochemistry to distinguish myeloid leukemias from lymphoid malignancies and to identify stem-cell populations in normal and neoplastic tissues.

Flow cytometric analysis of CD15 expression on human peripheral blood cells. Human peripheral blood cells were stained with PE-Cy7 Mouse IgM,k Isotype Control (left panel) or SDT PE-Cy7 Mouse Anti-Human CD15 Antibody (right panel) at 5 μl/test with True-Stain Monocyte Blocker™. Total viable cells, as determined by Fixable Viability Dye 452 (S0B88801), were used for analysis. Flow cytometry and data analysis were performed using Agilent NovoCyte Quanteon and FlowJo™ software.
