Background
Soluble Programmed Death-Ligand 1 (sPD-L1) is found in the bloodstream and can be shed from the surface of tumor cells and immune cells. Elevated levels are primarily a marker of immune system suppression and are most significantly studied in the context of cancer. Serum PD-L1 serves as a valuable prognostic and monitoring biomarker in cancer, reflecting tumor-mediated immunosuppression. While promising for predicting outcomes and potentially guiding immunotherapy, it remains an investigational tool requiring further validation before widespread clinical adoption.
