Background
The PC-12 cell line, derived from rat adrenal pheochromocytoma, is one of the most classic and widely used cell models in neuroscience research. These cells can be induced to differentiate into sympathetic neuron-like cells and extend neurites under the stimulation of nerve growth factor (NGF), making them highly suitable for studying: • The molecular mechanisms of neuronal differentiation and neurite outgrowth. • Neurotransmitter synthesis, storage, and release (particularly catecholamines). • Neuronal signal transduction pathways (e.g., neurotrophic factor signaling, MAPK/ERK pathways). • Neurodegenerative diseases (such as Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease) as cellular models and related protein expression studies. • Neurotoxicity and screening of neuroprotective drugs.
