Background

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most abundant and conserved internal chemical modification on eukaryotic messenger RNA (mRNA), referring to the reversible methylation of the nitrogen atom at the sixth position of adenosine. This modification is dynamically catalyzed by "writers" (such as the METTL3/METTL14 complex), removed by "erasers" (such as FTO and ALKBH5), and recognized by "reader" proteins (such as the YTH family) to regulate RNA fate. m6A plays a central role in key post-transcriptional processes including RNA splicing, nuclear export, translation efficiency, and degradation. It is extensively involved in mammalian development, immunity, neurological functions, and various diseases (especially cancer and metabolic disorders), making it a hot topic in the field of epitranscriptomics.
