Background
Mouse IL-12 is a critical pro-inflammatory cytokine that bridges innate and adaptive immunity. It is a heterodimeric protein composed of p35 (IL-12A) and p40 (IL-12B) subunits, forming the bioactive IL-12(p70). Primarily produced by antigen-presenting cells like dendritic cells and macrophages upon pathogenic stimulation, its pivotal role is to drive the differentiation of naïve CD4⁺ T cells into T helper 1 (Th1) cells and to potently induce interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) production from both T cells and natural killer (NK) cells. This establishes a robust cellular immune response essential for defense against intracellular pathogens such as viruses and bacteria. In biomedical research, Mouse IL-12 is a cornerstone for studying Th1-mediated immunity, evaluating vaccine efficacy, investigating antitumor immunotherapy strategies, and modeling autoimmune diseases like experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE).
