Background
Myelinoligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) is a transmembrane protein belonging toimmunoglobulin superfamily. Mouse MOG issynthesized with a 28 amino acid (aa) signal sequence, a 128 aa extracellulardomain (ECD) containing an Ig-like domain, a 21 aa transmembrane domain, and a69 aa cytosolic fragment featuring a hydrophobic domain that associates withthe cytoplasmic face of the plasma membrane. MOG is expressed exclusively byoligodendrocytes in the central nervous system (CNS) and is localized to the outerlayer of the myelin sheath as well as in the oligodendrocyte plasma membrane. This makes MOG a potential target of cellular and humoral immune responses ininflammatory demyelinating diseases.
