Background
LRRK2, also known as Leucine-rich repeat kinase 2, is a large, multi-domain protein kinase that belongs to the ROCO (Ras of complex proteins) family. It is highly conserved across species and plays important roles in various cellular processes, including vesicle trafficking, autophagy, and cytoskeletal dynamics. Mutations in the LRRK2 gene have been linked to several neurodegenerative disorders, most notably Parkinson's disease. The phosphorylation of LRRK2 at S935 has been implicated in modulating its kinase activity and may contribute to the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease and other LRRK2-related disorders.
