Background
KIF18A is a kinesin-8 family motor protein that uses ATP hydrolysis to move along microtubules, selectively accumulating at the plus ends of kinetochore fibers where it dampens their dynamics to ensure precise chromosome congression on the metaphase plate, control spindle length and tension, and coordinate subsequent cytokinesis, thereby safeguarding genomic integrity; its depletion triggers metaphase alignment errors, anaphase delay, central-spindle disorganization, and incomplete cleavage furrow formation, while its overexpression is strongly linked to aggressive cancers with chromosomal instability, making it a promising selective therapeutic target for small-molecule inhibitors that induce mitotic catastrophe preferentially in aneuploid tumor cells.

Counterstained with hematoxylin. Heat mediated antigen retrieval with Tris/EDTA buffer pH9.0 was performed before commencing with IHC staining protocol.
