Flow cytometric analysis of BALB/c mouse bone marrow labeled with Anti-Mouse Ter-119 antibody at 1/5000 dilution (0.1 μg) / (right panel) compared with a Rat IgG2b, κ Isotype Control / (left panel). Goat Anti-Rat IgG Alexa Fluor® 488 was used as the secondary antibody. Then cells were stained with CD45 – PE-Cy7 antibody separately. Flow cytometry and data analysis were performed using Agilent NovoCyte Quanteon and FlowJo™ software.

Background
Ter-119 is a highly specific surface marker expressed on mouse erythroid cells and their precursors, and is a glycoprotein with a molecular weight of approximately 52 kDa. Its antigen appears at the early progenitor stage of erythropoiesis and continues to be expressed through to mature red blood cells. As a commonly used surface antigen in murine hematopoietic research, Ter-119 clearly distinguishes erythroid cells from other hematopoietic lineages, and is therefore widely employed in flow cytometry and immunomagnetic cell sorting for the enrichment or depletion of erythroid cells. Its monoclonal antibody (e.g., anti-Ter-119 antibody) is frequently used to analyze erythroid differentiation disorders in anemia models, study the developmental dynamics of erythroid progenitor cells, or combine with other markers such as CD71 to distinguish erythroid cells at different maturation stages (e.g., early CD71 high Ter-119 low cells versus late CD71 low Ter-119 high cells). It is important to note that Ter-119 is a mouse-specific antigen, and its antibody cannot be used for the detection of human samples.
