Background

CD80also known as B7-1is a co - stimulatory molecule expressed on antigen - presenting cellsAPCssuch as dendritic cellsmacrophages and B cells. It plays a crucial role in the immune response by interacting with CD28 on T cells to provide a co - stimulatory signal necessary for T cell activationthereby promoting T cell proliferation and differentiation. AdditionallyCD80 can also bind to CTLA - 4an inhibitory receptor on T cellswhich acts as a negative regulator of T cell activation. This binding can inhibit the immune response and maintain immune tolerance. MoreoverCD80 - CD28 interaction is involved in the regulation of various immune - related processesincluding the formation of immunological synapses and the regulation of cytokine production.

Flow cytometric analysis of C57BL/6 mouse splenocytes, treated 3 days with 500 ng/ml LPS (right panel) or untreated (left panel), labeled with Mouse CD80 (B7-1) at 1/500 dilution (1 μg). Goat Anti - Mouse IgG Alexa Fluor® 488 was used as the secondary antibody. Flow cytometry and data analysis were performed using Agilent NovoCyte Quanteon and FlowJo™ software.
