Background

Mouse IL-3 (interleukin-3), also known as multi-colony-stimulating factor, is a small glycoprotein secreted mainly by activated T cells and other cells. It is a short-chain cytokine of the four-helix bundle family and signals through a receptor composed of IL-3Rα (CD123) and the common βc chain (CD131). It promotes the proliferation, differentiation, and survival of multipotent hematopoietic progenitors, particularly expanding mast cells, basophils, eosinophils, and some myeloid cells, and is involved in allergic inflammation, parasite immunity, and sepsis. Clinically, mouse IL-3 is mainly used in models of hematopoiesis, allergy, and inflammatory diseases and in target validation of the IL-3/IL-3R axis; because of species specificity relative to human IL-3, its direct clinical value is limited, but it provides a translational basis for related biomarkers and targeted therapies.
