Background
CFHR1 (Complement Factor H-Related Protein 1) is a secreted glycoprotein belonging to the factor H protein family. It is primarily synthesized in the liver and circulates in blood plasma. CFHR1 modulates the complement system, a key part of innate immunity, by competing with factor H for C3b binding. It regulates complement activation on surfaces, influencing inflammatory responses. Dysregulation or deficiency of CFHR1 is associated with atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
