Background
Helz2 (Helicase with Zinc Finger 2) is a large, multifunctional nuclear protein belonging to the DEAH-box family of RNA helicases, characterized by its extensive domain architecture that includes an N-terminal helicase core, multiple zinc finger motifs, and a C-terminal region involved in protein-protein interactions. Primarily recognized for its critical role as a transcriptional coactivator for the thyroid hormone receptor (TR), Helz2 facilitates gene expression by recruiting other cofactors and modifying chromatin structure in a ligand-dependent manner, thereby influencing metabolic regulation, development, and cellular differentiation.
