Background
GOLGA2 (Golgin subfamily A member 2), commonly known as GM130, is a peripheral membrane protein localized to the cis-Golgi network that serves as a critical structural scaffold for the Golgi apparatus. It maintains the stacked organization of Golgi cisternae and facilitates vesicle tethering and fusion during ER-to-Golgi transport. Beyond its structural role, GOLGA2 is essential for cell division, where it regulates mitotic Golgi disassembly and promotes spindle pole assembly by interacting with microtubule nucleation factors. Clinically, it is a well-established marker for Golgi structure and is implicated in various cellular processes, including protein glycosylation and cell polarization.
