Background
Basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), also known as FGF-2 or FGF-β, is a member of the fibroblast growth factor family that regulates essential biological functions including cell proliferation, survival, migration, and differentiation. The FGF family comprises 18-22 members grouped into subfamilies based on sequence homology, with FGF-2 binding to and signaling through all four FGF receptors (FGFR1-4), transmembrane receptors with intracellular tyrosine kinase activity. Upon activation, FGFRs recruit SH2 or PTB domain-containing signaling proteins, leading to activation of downstream pathways including RAS/MAP kinase, PI3 kinase/Akt, and PLCγ.
The industrial applications of chicken bFGF have expanded dramatically with the emergence of cellular agriculture and cultivated meat production. Recombinant chicken/duck FGF-2 protein (145 aa) is specifically developed for species-specific avian cellular agriculture protocols, serving as a critical medium component for cultivating chicken cells for food applications.
