Background
EGFL6, a member ofthe EGF-like superfamily, plays an important role during embryonic developmentand has been implicated in promotion of tumor angiogenesis without affectingwound healing. Importantly, expression of EGFL6 in cancer cells and tumorendothelial cells not only increased tumor angiogenesis but also promotedmigration of cancer cells. Members ofthis superfamily are characterized by the presence of EGF-like repeats and areoften involved in the regulation of cell cycle, proliferation, and developmentalprocesses. EGFL6 gene is expressed early during development, and its expressionhas been detected in lung and meningioma tumors.
