Background
CHX10, also known as VSX2 (Visual System Homeobox 2), is a paired-like homeodomain transcription factor that serves as a master regulator in vertebrate eye development, playing indispensable roles in the specification, proliferation, and differentiation of retinal progenitor cells into various neuronal lineages, particularly bipolar cells and Müller glia. Expressed primarily in the developing neural retina, CHX10 functions by binding to specific DNA sequences to activate or repress target genes involved in cell cycle control and fate determination, thereby ensuring the proper formation of retinal layers and overall eye morphology.
