Background
CD49b, also known as the integrin alpha-2 subunit (ITGA2), is a transmembrane glycoprotein that primarily associates with CD29 (integrin beta-1) to form the VLA-2 complex, serving as a key cell surface receptor for collagen and laminin. Widely expressed on platelets, epithelial cells, fibroblasts, and specific immune subsets such as NK cells and T cells, it plays a central role in mediating cell adhesion, migration, signal transduction, and platelet activation; furthermore, it is deeply involved in pathological processes including tissue repair, angiogenesis, and tumor metastasis, acting as a critical bridge connecting the extracellular matrix to the intracellular cytoskeleton.
