Background

CX3CR1 (C-X3-C motif chemokine receptor 1) is a G protein-coupled receptor that plays a crucial role in immune cell migration and function. It is primarily expressed on cells such as monocytes, macrophages, and microglia. The ligand for CX3CR1 is CX3CL1 (fractalkine), which can exist both as a membrane-bound form and a soluble form. The interaction between CX3CR1 and CX3CL1 is essential for maintaining immune homeostasis in tissues. In the central nervous system, CX3CR1 on microglia helps regulate their surveillance and response to neuronal damage or infection. Additionally, in peripheral tissues, CX3CR1 signaling is involved in the recruitment of immune cells to sites of inflammation. Dysregulation of the CX3CR1 pathway has been implicated in various inflammatory and neurodegenerative diseases, making it a potential therapeutic target for conditions such as multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, and cardiovascular diseases.

Flow cytometric analysis of Human CX3CR1 expression on human PBMCs (human peripheral blood mononuclear cells). Human PBMCs were stained with Brilliant Violet 421™ Rat Anti-Mouse CD3 Antibody and either Biotin Rat IgG2b, k Isotype Control (left panel) or SDT Biotin Rat Anti-Mouse CX3CR1 Antibody (right panel) at 5 μl/test followed by Sav-APC. Flow cytometry and data analysis were performed using Agilent NovoCyte Quanteon and FlowJo™ software.
