Flow cytometric analysis of human CD15 expression on human Peripheral Blood cells. Human Peripheral Blood cells were stained with Biotin IgM, k Isotype Control (left panel) or SDT Biotin Mouse Anti-Mouse/Human CD15 Antibody (right panel) at 0.5 μl/test followed by Sav-APC. Flow cytometry and data analysis were performed using BD FACSymphony™ A1 and FlowJo™ software.

Background
CD15, also known as Lewis X or SSEA-1, is a carbohydrate epitope (Galβ1→4[Fucα1→3]GlcNAc) carried primarily on glycoproteins and glycolipids of myeloid cells, granulocytes, and certain lymphocyte subsets; it serves as a key adhesion molecule that mediates selectin-dependent leukocyte rolling during inflammation, acts as a marker of mature neutrophils and Hodgkin/Reed-Sternberg cells, and its differential expression is exploited in immunohistochemistry to distinguish myeloid leukemias from lymphoid malignancies and to identify stem-cell populations in normal and neoplastic tissues.
