Background
Cetuximab (INN, brand name: Erbitux) is a chimeric monoclonal antibody drug that targets the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). It works by specifically binding to EGFR, thereby blocking the growth signaling pathways that cancer cells rely on for survival and proliferation, ultimately inhibiting tumor growth and inducing apoptosis. Clinically, this drug is primarily indicated for the treatment of RAS wild-type metastatic colorectal cancer, as well as locally advanced or metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck, often used in combination with chemotherapy or radiotherapy to enhance therapeutic efficacy. During treatment, common side effects include characteristic acne-like rash, dry skin, and infusion-related allergic reactions, so patients are advised to avoid sun exposure and remain under close medical monitoring throughout the therapy.
