Flow cytometric analysis of Mouse CD205 expression on BALB/c mouse bone marrow. BALB/c mouse bone marrow was stained with Pacific Blue™ Rat Anti-Mouse Ly-6G/Ly-6C Antibody and either Alexa Fluor® 488 Rat IgG2a, κ Isotype Control (left panel) or SDT Alexa Fluor® 488 Rat Anti-Mouse CD205 Antibody (right panel) at 2 μl/test. Total viable cells, as determined by Fixable Viability Dye 662 (S0D0016), were used for analysis. Flow cytometry and data analysis were performed using Agilent NovoCyte Quanteon and FlowJo™ software.

Background
CD205, also known as DEC-205, is a type C lectin receptor and a type I membrane glycoprotein belonging to the mannose receptor family. It is highly expressed on dendritic cells (DCs), thymic epithelial cells, and certain epithelial cells. CD205 plays a crucial role in antigen uptake, processing, and presentation, facilitating the induction of antigen-specific T cell immunity. This receptor is involved in endocytosis, capturing antigens from the extracellular space and transporting them to specialized compartments for processing. Its high efficiency in antigen presentation makes it a valuable target in immunotherapy, particularly for developing vaccines against viruses and tumors. Additionally, CD205 has been found to recognize apoptotic and necrotic cells in an acidic environment through its interaction with keratin.
