Flow cytometric analysis of Mouse CD198 expression on C57BL/6 mouse thymocytes. C57BL/6 mouse thymocytes were stained with Alexa Fluor® 647 Rat Anti-Mouse CD4 Antibody and either Alexa Fluor® 488 Rat IgG2b, κ Isotype Control (Left panel) or SDT Alexa Fluor® 488 Rat Anti-Mouse CD198 Antibody (Right panel) at 5μl/test. Flow cytometry and data analysis were performed using BD FACSymphony™ A1 and FlowJo™ software.

Background
CD198, also known as CCR8, is a 41 kD G-protein coupled receptor with seven transmembrane regions, belonging to the C-C chemokine receptor family. It is predominantly expressed in lymphoid tissues, including subsets of T cells, monocytes, macrophages, eosinophils, thymocytes, Langerhans cells, neurons, and vascular smooth muscle cells. CCR8 plays a crucial role in regulating monocyte chemotaxis, thymic cell apoptosis, and the activation, migration, proliferation, and differentiation of lymphocytes. It is also associated with allergic diseases and has been identified as an alternative coreceptor to CD4 for HIV-1 infection. CCR8 binds to chemokines such as CCL1 (I-309) and CCL18 and exhibits high affinity for viral chemokines like vMIP-I, vMIP-II, and vMCC-I.
