Background

CD11c, also known as integrin alpha X (ITGAX), is a ~150 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein that pairs non-covalently with the 95 kDa beta2 integrin CD18 to form the αXβ2 heterodimer (complement receptor 4, CR4), which mediates cell adhesion, migration, and phagocytosis by binding diverse ligands such as iC3b, fibrinogen, ICAMs, and denatured proteins; it is predominantly expressed on myeloid dendritic cells, tissue macrophages, activated monocytes, and some B-cell subsets, serving as a classic marker for conventional dendritic cells in both mice and humans, and plays crucial roles in immune surveillance, antigen presentation, and inflammatory responses while also being implicated in autoimmune diseases and serving as a therapeutic target in cancer immunotherapy.

Flow cytometric analysis of Mouse CD11c expression on C57BL/6 mouse splenocytes. C57BL/6 mouse splenocytes were stained with APC Rat Anti-Mouse I-A/I-E Antibody at 0.1 μg/test (S0B1677) and either Alexa Fluor® 488 Armenian Hamster IgG Isotype Control (left panel) or SDT Alexa Fluor® 488 Armenian Hamster Anti-Mouse CD11c Antibody (right panel) at 5 μl/test. Total viable cells, as determined by Fixable Viability Dye 452 (S0D0021), were used for analysis. Flow cytometry and data analysis were performed using Agilent NovoCyte Quanteon and FlowJo™ software.
