Background
Human Notch-2 is a 300 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein. Members of this Type 1 transmembrane protein family share structural characteristics and play a role in a variety of developmental processes by controlling cell fate decisions. As a receptor for the membrane-binding ligands Jagged-1 (JAG1), Jagged-2 (JAG2) and Delta-1 (DLL1), the ligands, activated by the released notch intracellular domain (NICD), form a transcription activator complex with RBPJ/RBPSUH to activate the division site enhancer gene.
