Background
Interleukin-7 (IL-7) is a crucial cytokine that plays a central role in the development and maintenance of the immune system. It is primarily produced by stromal cells in the bone marrow and thymus, but can also be secreted by keratinocytes, dendritic cells, hepatocytes, neurons, and epithelial cells. IL-7 is essential for the growth and survival of both B and T lymphocytes, promoting their development and differentiation. It binds to the IL-7 receptor (IL-7R) and activates signaling pathways that support lymphocyte homeostasis and proliferation. In addition to its role in immune regulation, IL-7 has been implicated in various diseases, including cancer, where it can influence tumor growth and immune response. Its potential therapeutic applications include boosting the immune system in cancer therapy and treating immunodeficiency disorders.
