Background

Cytokeratin 13 (CK13), also known as keratin 13 (KRT13), is a type I acidic polymer metamorphine. It forms a heterotetramer with type I CK4 and forms an intermediate wire, mainly to shape the cell skeleton of specific epithelial cells. It is mainly expressed in suprabasal layers of noncornified stratified epithelium, including squamous (nonkeratinized) epithelia of cervix, esophagus, larynx, oral cavity, tonsils, urothelium and respiratory type epithelium. It is a marker of mature but nonkeratinized squamous epithelium.

Immunohistochemistry

IHC shows positive staining in paraffin-embedded human tonsil. Anti-CK-13 antibody was used at 1/1000 dilution, followed by a HRP Polymer for Mouse & Rabbit IgG (ready to use). Counterstained with hematoxylin. Heat mediated antigen retrieval with Tris/EDTA buffer pH9.0 was performed before commencing with IHC staining protocol.

IHC shows positive staining in paraffin-embedded human esophagus.

IHC shows positive staining in paraffin-embedded human cervical squamous cell carcinoma.

IHC shows positive staining in paraffin-embedded human lung squamous cell carcinoma.

IHC shows positive staining in paraffin-embedded human transitional cell carcinoma.

Negative control: IHC shows negative staining in paraffin-embedded human lung adenocarcinoma. Anti-CK-13 antibody was used at 1/1000 dilution, followed by a HRP Polymer for Mouse & Rabbit IgG (ready to use). Counterstained with hematoxylin.
