Background
K-ε-GV is a variant of the k-ε turbulence model used in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to simulate turbulent flows. The standard k-ε model is widely used in engineering applications due to its robustness and reasonable accuracy for various turbulent flows. It consists of two transport equations, one for the turbulent kinetic energy (k) and one for the dissipation rate of turbulent kinetic energy (ε). The model assumes that the flow is fully turbulent and the molecular viscosity can be neglected. The k-ε model is particularly effective for high Reynolds number flows but may require wall functions for near-wall treatment due to its inability to accurately resolve the viscous sublayer. Variants such as the RNG k-ε and Realizable k-ε models have been developed to improve the model's performance in complex flows, such as those with strong shear or rotation. The RNG k-ε model, for example, uses renormalization group theory to enhance the model's accuracy in rapidly strained flows, while the Realizable k-ε model provides better predictions for the spreading rates of planar and round jets and improves the performance in flows with rotation, adverse pressure gradients, and separation.
